Dare to dream

Triparna Kalita

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

-Albert Einstein

A thought, a concept, or a set of dreams and goals formed by our imagination has the ability to change our lives. The act of unusual discernment and foresight or the power of seeing what can be ahead is vision and the best part of it is that we can control it. Vision defines what success and excellence looks like to us, it expresses our vision for where we want to be in the future and it reflects our values, goals, and purpose and how we want to operate. But the problem with individuals like us is we focus on our current, condition, not on what we actually want and it is one of the reason that we can not see through our vision, the thing that we all should be doing for a better life is that we must change our thoughts and vision to reflect what we enjoy and want not what we already have because the purpose of having vision for all areas of our life is not just about getting what we want. It’s also about living a fully engaged and exciting life. And unfortunately at times we push too hard to understand our visions that often we end up pulling them apart and destroying our visions. The first step to learn how to understand vision is simply to take a break and stop for a moment because we cannot listen to our hearts if we don’t stop or give it time. Visions require centering and very much of patience. Without a stop, it’s impossible to truly connect to any deeper to our vision.Vision is a mental picture of the future. It is an idea of what the future can hold, but has not yet happened, definitely we may have visions or have intuitive hints, but we will miss deeper experience without stopping into the vision in the first place that is for sure.

Don’t let others tell you what you can’t do. Don’t let the limitations of others limit your vision. If you can remove your self-doubt and believe in yourself, you can achieve what you never thought possible.

Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas. Steven Speilberg was rejected from film school, not once, not twice, but three times. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. Thomas Edison failed some 10,000 times before successfully inventing the light bulb. But what led these successful and talented people to continue despite failure and rejection? A light that their vision showed them to keep going. Vision is the thing that is inside every one of us and it guides us to where we belong. It makes us eligible enough to grow and improve and become better every day. Vision embodies our hopes and ideals, it gives us a sense of purpose of our life. It has the power to show glimpses of what we can do and what is possible. A personal mission and vision statement gives us something to strive for at every stage of our career and life. I know many of us take life as it comes. More focused on approaching events and current situations, mostly we don’t feel the urge to think in the long term. And that’s understandable, because the present affects us now. But broadening our vision takes us to the inside of our mind and it makes us realise what we want to achieve or what we want to do in our lives and that’s a huge thing because a life without a goal is like a boat without it’s bow. And when we try to create the life of our dream without knowing what steps to take next, the chance of falling down becomes more distinct.

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

-Audre Lorde

I ask myself often that what are my major accomplishments that I hope to attain one day, what is the level or position I hope to rise to, and what are the lasting impacts I hope to make. And trust me it is something that I can aspire to. It has the capacity to inspire me to work hard the next day even more than today regardless of where I am now and the distance between the present and my vision. By putting our vision into words, we begin to set in motion a process through which we will eventually achieve our goal. A vision opens our eyes to the reality and gives us something tangible to move towards it. A clear vision is how we commit to live our life. It influences all areas including family, spirituality, physical well-being, leisure, and work and the most interesting, accomplished people I know all have a vision for their lives. They seem to know what comes next, like they’ve seen the future. Being able to create a vision for life and then learn how to value it are the yin and yang of living a great life just like the concept of duality forming a whole. Values provides the trust and appropriate behaviours needed for success and vision provides direction and a sense of purpose. Building a vision offers a unique approach to both transformation and empowerment. And when we involve ourselves in the process of building a vision, we learn about society, future, change and ourselves in a way that it helps us to grow in a positive and successful way.

If I paint a wild horse, you might not see the horse… but surely you will see the wildness!

-Pablo Picasso

We have the ability to take our vision in the way we want to but we have to learn how to differentiate between the good and the best. In the beginning we will have to enhance our self worth and we must speak with confidence about our future goals and ambitions. People may doubt the likelihood of us achieving the future we envision, but with a little hard work and lots of perseverance we can have the future we’ve always vision about. Let me make one thing clear here that some people know their strengths and some aren’t sure about that and lots of people have no idea what they want to do when they’re 11 or 12 and still don’t know what they want to do when they turn 25, and for a few it takes a lot longer. But as long as the things we do right now makes us happy then there is no doubt on the fact that we’re on the right path. We all have a very tricky mind and it makes things real to us before they become apparent to anyone else. This present moment we are in now is the beginning and continuation of our future and it all starts with an idea, a spark, a vision. So in a sense our future is with us right now. It’s about stepping into the moment and choosing to see the possibility of what’s coming next. Having visions is not about stressing about the future, it’s about changing the way we perceive it and it’s mostly about recognising the fact that we are the creator of our own dreams, happiness and future. So at the end I want to say that we should definitely think and plan about our future but we should never loose ourselves while doing it. Our visions are essential to our success and it is not optional. We set the stage for our desired outcome based on how hard we’re willing to work and it starts only with being able to clearly see our self achieving our goal.

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
